Parents of rescued minors violating curfew charged by MPD

MANILA –The Manila Police District-Moriones Tondo Police Station has filed charges against parents of three minors who were recently rescued from the streets on Friday.

In a Facebook post by Manila Mayor Francisco ‘Isko Moreno’ Domagoso over the weekend, he said the parents of these rescued minors violated City Ordinance No. 8243 or the Anti-Child Endangerment Act.

Ang mga nasabing bata ay na-rescue bandang alas-10 ng gabi habang nagpa-patrolya sa C.M. Recto Ave., Tondo bilang pagtugon sa strict implementation of City Ordinance No. 8647 Establishing Protection and Discipline Hours para sa mga menor-de-edad ng Lungsod mula alas-10 ng gabi hanggang alas-4 ng umaga (these minors were rescued around 10 in the evening while (the MPD policemen) were patrolling along C.M. Recto Ave. in Tondo in compliance with the strict implementation of City Ordinance No. 8647 establishing protection and discipline hours for minors in the city from 10 p.m. till 4 a.m.),” Domagoso said in his post.

The three minors who were rescued are ages 10, 13, and 7.

The rescued minors were immediately turned over to the Manila Department of Social Welfare at the RASAC covered court.

To recall, Domagoso already warned parents of minors who will be caught in the streets at night in violation of curfew hours that charges will be filed against them, adding that they should be jailed for being irresponsible guardians.

City Ordinance 8243 penalizes any person who abandons or exposes a minor or allows said minor to be exposed to a perilous situation that endangers human life, health, or wellbeing.

It states that penalties for those who will be caught violating the ordinance include a fine of PHP2,000 or imprisonment of one month if the minor is 15 to 17 years old.

If the age of the minor is 13 to 14 years old, the fine increases to PHP3,000 or imprisonment of three months.

There will be a fine of PHP5,000 or an imprisonment of six months or both, depending on the discretion of the court, if the minor is only 12 years old and below. (PNA)
