LAOAG CITY – To usher the return of tourists in the province, the sprawling sand dunes of Paoay, Ilocos Norte is ready to welcome party goers for a drive-in concert under the moonlight on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Ilocos Norte Tourism Office (INTO) earlier announced that the first 30 participants who will pre-register will be accommodated to a free concert at the scenic Paoay sand dunes at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

The drive-in concert organized by the provincial government in partnership with the municipal government of Paoay features Jo Angeles, Better Than Noice, and Slippery When Wet rock band.

“The pandemic has shutdown our big events in the province but because Ilocanos have the passion to serve and we have a heritage of resilience, we have to find a way to survive,” said provincial tourism officer Aianree Raquel on the reopening of tourism.

As part of encouraging more people to go out and live under the new normal, the INTO continues to explore socially distanced way of restoring its pandemic-hit industry with “hyperlocal” pop-up activities.

Like in previous drive-in concerts that the INTO has initiated, organizers said the number of participants will be limited to 30 individuals only.

Based on the governor’s Executive Order No. 78-20, the reopening of public spaces such as parks, beaches, and resorts, among others, are allowed as long as it adheres to minimum health protocols and crowd control.

The minimum health protocols include the wearing of face mask, a strategic queuing mechanism during the concert, remaining inside the vehicles for the entire concert period, and banning alcoholic beverage consumption and communal dining. (PNA)
